Hi all

On behalf of the Club Executive, I want to update you on our program for 2011-2012.

We are proposing to meet this year once a month on the second Wednesday of each month. This will provide an opportunity for the executive to provide a quality program while at the same time freeing up time for more workshops, outings and other hands-on activities at other times. Many of the other clubs meet once a month; some have special activities in between meetings.

For the Wednesday nights, here is our planned program:

September 14 - Opening Night. Key Speaker: Peter Stranks, Professor, Georgian College and professional photographer. Peter will speak to what inspires him and show some of his award winning images. He believes "the best photography is an expression of self".
October 12 - Key Note Speaker: Lance Gitter, Member of the Richmond Hill Camera Club and Toronto Focal Forum. Lance is an innovative photographer and Camera Club judge. He will speak on "what makes a good photograph versus a bad photograph?" Lance will show us a selection of some of his award-winning photographs.
November 9: David Kennedy will lead a hands-on session, focusing on "Getting it right in the camera". This is a session for all of us who want to get their images right in camera and who do not have time or interest in further work on the computer. Many commercial photographers continue to use this method and shoot jpeg all the time. They may shoot jpeg and raw and keep the raw as a backup.
December 14: Richard Smith will coordinate a club critique night. Club members will be encouraged to bring in photos for discussion and review by judges and club members. This will serve as a follow-up to our session with Lance Gitter. Note: the Christmas party will be on a separate night.
January 11: Peter Gallagher will coordinate our first competition night. We will continue with the Canadian Association for Photographic Art and hold in-house competitions to showcase and get feedback on our images.
February 8: Max will lead a session on his creative approaches to photography and lighting. Max: do you want add more?
March 14: Peter Gallagher will coordinate our second competition night.
April 11: Mark Kruse will lead a session on macro photography. John McQuirter will do a hands-on short session on photographing water-drops.
May 9: John McQuirter will lead a session on action photography. As part of this session, John will do a hands-on session on panning, including using rear curtain sync while panning.
June 13: This will be our ADM and wrap-up meeting.

At our first meeting, we will organize some additional activities, such as workshops and outings. Some tentative ideas include:

a hands-on field trip to photograph historic re-enactments
a session to photograph a band in a studio or club setting
outings to fall fairs
a fall outing to Victoria Falls and/or the Big Chute.

if you have any other ideas, please bring them to the first meeting.

We look forward to seeing you at our first meeting on September 14th at 7:00 pm. The meetings will continue to take place in the Helping Hands Board Room, off Memorial Avenue.
