> Hi all
>
> I am leading the next meeting. This meeting will be a hands-on session focusing on "Getting it right in the camera".
>
> We can all perfect our photography by using better the full capabilities of our cameras, to not only take our photos but to process them too. All of our cameras take raw images and process them using a built in processing engine to generate "jpeg" files. "Jpeg" files are both processed raw files and compressed files and can be readily shared or printed (with limited computer use). Only some cameras allow you to access raw images and process them yourselves (advanced point and shoot and digital single lens reflex cameras).
>
> To start the evening, we will talk about "jpeg" files and how the camera generates them and what control the camera gives you over the files. Each camera allows you some control over how the camera processes the jpeg files. We will talk about:
> JPEG file size
> JPEG picture styles, such as "standard", "neutral", "vivid", portrait. etc.
> JPEG sharpening
> JPEG noise reduction.
> As each camera company handles JPEGs differently, I ask you to bring your camera with you. We will break up into small groups, to ensure each of you gets an opportunity to see how your own camera processes JPEG files.
>
> In the second part of the evening, we will look at the traditional camera controls and how they impact on getting it right in the camera.
> This will include:
> Exposure Control (aperture priority, shutter priority, program priority)
> Exposure Compensation
> Histograms
> ISO
> White Balance.
> We will again break into small groups by camera manufacturer and look at the traditional camera controls and how you use them in the field to take a better photograph.
>
> Finally, we will end the evening by talking about how you can use JPEG, their limitations and the value of "RAW" images as a back-up.
>
> For the advanced photographers who shoot RAW, I ask that you DO COME TO THIS MEETING.. You can help add your expertise to the small group discussions. And, I believe you may learn some new ways of using your camera. You will be surprised how many excellent photographers only shoot JPEGS.

> If anyone wants to bring some images for a show and tell session, please e-mail me.
