SUMMARY:May Meeting: Ghost Towns and Grain Elevators of Southern Saskatchewan
DESCRIPTION:Ghost Towns and Grain Elevators of Southern Saskatchewan\n \nKimberly Wand is a longtime teacher with the Simcoe County Board of Education. She enjoys integrating her interests in Canadian history and nature into her photography. The presentation “Ghost Towns and Grain Elevators of Southern Saskatchewan” is a product of a traveling adventure south of the Trans Canada Highway 1. She explores the sparsely populated land south of Regina\, including the Red Coat Trail and delves into what remains of these once booming communities on the Saskatchewan prairie. While photography can convey the expansive sky and the haunting beauty of a disappearing cultural landscape\, so too can it cause us to reflect on the struggles\, resilience and perseverance of the people who came to make a better life in the bread basket of Canada. \n\nEveryone is invited to join us Wednesday April 9th in the multi-purpose room of the Orillia Rec Centre. Non-Members are asked for a $5.00 donation.\nMay Members Photo Challenge: TBA \n\nAgenda:\n\nWelcome\nClub News\nPresentation: Airshow/Aviation Photography by Connor Earl\nSpring Photo Competition Review: Expansive Views\nBreak\nFeatured Presentation: Ghost Towns and Grain Elevators of Southern Saskatchewan

SUMMARY:Total Solar Eclipse
DESCRIPTION:There will be a total solar eclipse on April 8\, 2024\, the last for North America until 2044. It will not be total in Orillia but is total in Hamilton and Niagara Falls to the west and Picton\, Kingston\, Belleville and Brockville to the east. \nHamilton is the closest\, 185 km and 2 hours. \nHere are some articles on how to photograph it. You can order mylar film to put on your camera lens from Amazon but check that it is the thickness recommended by NASA. You can also buy eclipse glasses from Amazon. If you have kids or grandkids\, they might have fun making a pin-hole camera out of a cereal box. \nhttps://skyandtelescope.org/observing/celestial-objects-to-watch/eclipses/tips-for-imaging-a-partial-solar-eclipse/\nhttps://skyandtelescope.org/2024-total-solar-eclipse/solar-eclipse-photography-framing-eclipse/\nhttps://skyandtelescope.org/astronomy-blogs/astrophotography-jerry-lodriguss/ \nSubmitted by Vicki Sherwood
