I would venture a guess that 99% of camera club members are taking pictures
for their own enjoyment and therefore they should not get overly critical of
their results.
A certain amount of self and peer assessment is necessary if you wish to
feel that you are improving, and improvement of its members is one of the
goals of a camera club. However in many cases I feel criticism is based on
unrealistic expectations. "This picture of a very elusive bird would have
been better if taken from another angle." It likely took considerable effort
and patience to get an image of any kind of the bird.
More emphasis should be put on what is pleasing about an image rather than
what is wrong with it. We want to encourage people not dampen their
enthusiasm.

Anyone that was at the meeting will recognize these questions from the
Critique of Robin Baker's photo of the 'Gator' in the Everglades.
It was a fabulous meeting and Ian McIntosh had some interesting abstract
pieces and styles.
